General Pest Control Questions

How long does each appointment take?

The length of your appointment is dependent on the size of your home and property. Most pest control appointments will take about twenty minutes, but if you have a larger home, it may take longer. The initial appointment and inspection will take about thirty minutes and the technician can give you an estimate of how long the treatments will take in the future.

What happens during an appointment?

During each appointment, the technician will quickly inspect your property, identify the pests that need to be treated. He will then apply treatment to the areas that are necessary.

Do I need to be home during an appointment?

You do not need to be home during an appointment, as long as you give the technician access to your home and property. We do ask that you be at home during the initial termite inspection. The technician will need access to several different areas in your home to complete the inspection.

What service plans do you offer?

We offer three different service plans. The first plan includes our conventional treatment products. The second plan offers the organic treatment options. The third plan includes termite control and monitoring. Each of our treatment plans include quarterly inspections and regular treatments.

Will my kids be safe during a treatment?

The treatments are safe. In fact, the products are safer than the ones that you can buy in the store. Our technicians are trained and certified to apply the insecticide treatments safely. Your children can be home during treatment.

What do I need to do to protect my pets?

We require all pets to be removed from the property during each treatment and for four hours after the treatment is completed. Pets are naturally attracted to the wet insecticide. Once the insecticide is dry, it is safe for your pets to return home.

Are there organic treatment options?

There are organic treatment options available for most of our insect control treatments. The termite treatment does not have an organic treatment option, but we do offer chemical-free termite monitoring stations.

Is same day service available?

In most cases same day service is available. If for some reason we cannot visit you the day you call, we will visit the next day. We offer free inspection and estimates. Call us today to schedule your first appointment.

Ant Control

How can I prevent ants?

There are several steps that you can take to prevent ants. The first is to make sure that you do not have any cracks around your windows or door frames. Keeping your home clean can also help to prevent ticks from being a problem in your home. Repairing any leaks will also help to prevent ants.

How do I stop the ants from returning?

Many homeowners will use baits to treat ants. These often only work temporarily and the ants return in a few weeks. In order to stop the ants from returning, you will need to kill the queen so that the entire colony dies. The experts at EcoTek can treat the ants so that they do not return.

How can I spot an ant colony on my property?

How are carpenter ants different from other ants?

Carpenter ants look similar to the common household ants that you may see around your kitchen. The main difference is that they are larger than the household ants. Fire ants are a similar size, but will have a reddish-brown color, while carpenter ants are black.

Are fire ants in the area?

What type of damage can carpenter ants do?

How can I identify a fire ant mound?

A fire ant mound is quite a bit larger than other ant mounds. The most noticeable difference is that there is no entrance hole at the top of the mound. They will enter though the side tunnels. They may have tunnels that extend more than twenty feet away from the mound.

Termite Control

Will having termites lower the property value of my home?

Termites can lower the current value of your property because they cause structural damage to your home. However, once you treat for termites and repair any damage that they have caused, your home will return to the value that is was before you had termites. You will need to keep the documents that show you completed treatments.

When it the best time have a termite inspection?

At EcoTek, we recommend that you schedule an annual inspection. The spring is a good time to schedule an inspection since termites swarm in the spring. However, if you suspect you have termites, you should schedule a termite inspection right away. You can also schedule an inspection if you are planning on selling your home.

Is there a way to prevent termites?

There are a few things that you can do to prevent termites in your home. The first is to not place mulch or pine straw around the foundation of your home, you can use gravel as a border. Avoid stacking wood against the side of your house. Any wood projects you build in your yard should be built with treated wood.

What type of damage can termite do to my home?

Bed Bug Control

My home is very clean. How did I get bed bugs?

Bed bug infestations do not happen as a result of uncleanliness. Most people inadvertently bring them home with them after a business trip or vacation. You can also bring them in on second hand furniture or in a gym bag. Once they are in your home, they can be difficult to treat.

How do bed bugs find people?

Bed bugs are attracted to the Co2 emissions that people breathe out. They are also attracted to the heat that you put off at night. They do not see very well, but they do not need to because they will come out to find you while you are sleeping.

When are bed bugs active?

Bed bugs are the most active in the hour just before dawn. However, they are opportunistic feeders and they may feed during the day if given the opportunity. Most people have a hard time finding bed bugs because they are nocturnal and small enough to hide in very small cracks.

Do bed bugs fly?

Bed bugs do not fly. They move by crawling. They can crawl up to four feet in a minute so they are not necessarily the fastest moving insect. They are often undetected because they move at night when you are sleeping. If you turn on the light, you may be able to spot bed bugs.

Can I be home during a treatment?

How can I tell if I have bed bugs or fleas?

The bites on bed bugs and fleas are different from each other. Bed bugs will have several bites in a straight line and they can be anywhere on your body. Most flea bites will be around your ankles, since that is as high as they can jump.

Cockroach Control
